The Club was established in 1945. Here is an extract from the minutes of the first Committee meeting, dated 12th February 1945.

In the chair Councillor H. Bowman M.B.E. Members of the committee included Alderman F. Logan and councillors J.B. Balmer and C.A. Valentine.

The objects of the club are (as shown in our rulebook) to promote social and cultural intercourse among the members. The club in non-sectarian and is not affiliated nor connected directly or indirectly with any party or organisation.
We have several sporting organisations in connection with the club. Snooker, 4 teams in the Bangor and District league, Ladies Darts team, A Pool team & Golf society, 9 outings per season.
We contribute annually to various chartable organisations, Salvation Army Y.M.C.A. Gateway club and St Vincent de Paul.
We have over 900 Members from various section of society in the north down area.
